Zimbra for Education
Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) Network Edition is deployed by more than 500 academic institutions today. Zimbra’s rapid adoption is in part based on its rich features, compatibility with other campus systems, open technologies, administrator-friendly architecture, and now features both hosted and on-premise deployment options with Zimbra Hosted.
Rich End-user Features
Zimbra provides end users a state-of-the-art integrated web application with email, address book, calendaring, document authoring, instant messaging and collaboration. In addition, end users have anywhere access with Zimbra Mobile for iPhone and BlackBerry.
Compatibility
Zimbra is also compatible with all email clients (Outlook, Thunderbird) and integrates with 3rd party applications as mash-ups (Xythos, Sakai, Alfresco, and more). Zimbra Desktop provides end users a cross-platform alternative to Microsoft Outlook.
Administrator-friendly
The needs of constituents (faculty, staff, students and alumni) are easily met using ZCS’ flexible class-of-service (CoS) architecture. For instance, faculty can have enterprise-class services (shared calendars, mobile sync, no quotas) while students may have advanced web email only- all in one platform. Administrators can easily change CoS settings from the Administration Console. Zimbra Server is based on open source technology and has many integrated features (integrated AS/AV, clustering and more).
