Add New Capabilities to Zimbra Collaboration Server

Zimbra Collaboration Server has open APIs and a UI framework to add new end user functionality to the Web Collaboration client called “Zimlets.”  This enables the suite to be easily tailored to the needs of an organization or deployment.

  • New functionality may consist of simple hovers (view maps, calendar schedules) or entirely new application tabs (Zimbra Social)
  • Zimlets can call 3rd party data sources (WebEx) or internal back office systems (CRM)
  • Administrators configure which Zimlets are available to users and they can further refine their usage preference within the deployed set

View Calendar Email

Hovers are simple yet powerful ways to save time- if someone sends an email suggesting a meeting date simply mouse over to preview your calendar on that day.

Address and Map Preview

This useful hover identifies physical addresses in email message bodies and renders them as maps.

Google Translate

Global organizations often receive email in non-native languages- this tool automatically previews and translates messages; allowing a user to reply.

Salesforce.com Bar

This Zimlet cross-references email senders / recipients in SFDC and provides contextual options to add Leads or append messages sent to Accounts & Opportunities.

WebEx 

It’s no longer necessary to open WebEx to schedule a conference- it’s done for you and the meeting information is included in the Calendar invites you send. 

Smartsheet

Smartsheet customers can access their spreadsheets and Gantt charts within Zimbra; milestones appear in Zimbra Calendar that you can share with peers.

Social

Save time by aggregating and managing social networks like Facebook inside Zimbra instead of a desktop client; works anywhere on any computer. 

Build Your Own

Using freely available reference Zimlets, Zimbra and 3rd party APIs, new Zimlets can be quickly built and deployed tailored to the specific day-to-day workflows which need to be streamlined and managed from within Zimbra.

Explore the Zimbra Community and Gallery

Zimbra has a large open source Community that can provide guidance on how to extend Zimbra functionality as well share code based on Zimlets that have been contributed to the Community.  An excellent resource for more information is the Zimbra Forums where there are areas dedicated to development and Zimlets.

Another excellent resource for both finding and sharing Zimlets and other custom Zimbra add-ons is the Zimbra Gallery.  Zimbra customers and Community members often place their finished creations here for the Community to leverage for their own deployments.

Default Zimlets

Zimbra Collaboration Server ships with ten Zimlets pre-configured and many more administrators may deploy to their users.  Zimlet availability is configurable per user / group using Class-of-Service (CoS).

Attach Contacts

Allows attaching contacts when composing a new message. 

Email Attacher 

Attach email messages when composing a new message. 

Dates

Highlights dates in email body and previews associated appointments on that day and creates a link to the calendar. 

Drag-n-Drop Attachments

Provides ability to drag-n-drop file attachments from the computer desktop when composing an email message. 

Email Contact Details 

Highlights and previews associated contact details for an email address in your Address Book. 

LinkedIn 

Shows LinkedIn search result for a given email address in a message header.

Social

Access and manage Twitter, Facebook, Digg and TweetMeme from Zimbra. 

Search Highlighter 

After a mail search, this Zimlet highlights search terms with yellow color in email bodies.

URL Links 

Highlights Web URLs for linking in email messages. 

WebEx 

Save an invite in Zimbra also as a WebEx event and have WebEx info sent from Zimbra.  Easily schedule, start or join WebEx meetings.
