Default Add custom attribute on Account

I search a procedure to add some new attribute on Account or other entity.
I find you have to modify the zimbra-attrs.xml file to add it at the end of this file
but i thick is not really recommended for the future update

do you think the best practice is to add some new fields "attribute" is to create a custom db with all your modification
for make sure you not make some problem with Zimbra update or you have a better idea ?

    Thank for your suggestion

This isn't actually a trivial thing.

As you already mentioned, adding LDAP attributes is rather simple - if you're doing it manually.
But manual hacking in production systems obviously is a no go.

We've got a similar problem in the pipeline, so we're going to add an autogeneration of
zimbra-attrs.xml to zmpkg. The idea goes like this:

    * extensions will put their new attributes into separate files in some defined directory
    * zmpkg will detect that and initially copy the original there
    * then that file will be generated from the files in that directory (in postinstall stage)
    * additionally some bookkeeping magic that detects Zimbra reinstalls/upgrades and
    does the necessary regeneration steps

There'll be some nasty corner cases to handle (especially in the reinstall/upgrade case).

Unfortunately can't tell any timeline for this yet.

Anyway, that will only add LDAP attributes, but doesnt give you access to them via the
usual Zimbra API, as this would require changing sources and full rebuild.
