Default Hiding / displaying zimlets

Is there a way to programmatically hide / display zimletPanelItems?

What I would like to do is have my zimlet start out hidden, then get un-hidden when some initialization code (in the zimlet js) is complete.

I looked through ZmZimletBase and ZmZimletTreeController but didn't see anything obvious, probably missing something easy.

Default What about DOM

This all depends on how panel items are stored in memory. But if you could find that class that consumes the xml and see how the xml is stored in memory. If it's a DOM parser, it might be possible to bring append items via DOM object and reload. Might need a listener running in the background. It might be a bit more tricky if it's a sax type parser. This is all just theory though.
