Default No Social zimlet tab appearing?

In testing an upgrade from an existing 6.0.7 (no social zimlet) to 7.1.4 on a test server), I'm unable to get the social zimlet to display/work. It just never shows up, no matter what I do.

I've undeployed and deployed, I've removed other possible competing zimlets, even stripped them all out, added back in, cleared zimlet cache... no joy. As a sanity check, even did a test-install (empty) of 7.1.4, and of course the social zimlet worked fine.

Granted, this is a test environment, but I'm scheduled to upgrade our production servers on Sat, and am afraid I'll see the same issue. So I would prefer to figure it out beforehand. Thoughts where to begin? I've used the %dev=1 to the URL, but it does not give anything helpful.

Have you checked that it's enabled in the Admin UI/COS or are you saying it doesn't show in that?

Sure have checked. Yes, it shows in the Admin UI and COS... I've enabled via COS, directly via account, no good. It even shows as available in in the webclient (Prefs, Zimlets), but no matter what I try, I can't get it to display on the webclient.

OK, I figured out some of what is going on. I can see it (and the LinkedIn zimlet) fine when I use the webclient with HTTPS. But if I use HTTP (inside our LAN), neither the Social tab nor the LinkedIn zimlet show up.

Is that by design? A cursory look did not reveal that....

Default What makes it switch?

Encountered same behavior. Unfortunately in Firefox it hides the http: / https: so we were really left guessing. Especially since the login screen is https. I had to copy / paste with https into the address bar like:

https://mailly.ourserver/zimbra/?client=advanced#1

And that worked.

Reckon is there a setting that puts it into http mode? Wouldn't you want it to be https by default?
