Lightbulb Out of Office Warning Zimlet

I would like to make a zimlet that warns user when they log in, if there current status is Out of Office. Does anyone have some good tips on how to get started, maybe how I can get their OOO status from zimbra? Thanks.

Might not be the answer you are looking for, but ZCS 5.0 will incorporate start/stop dates for vacation auto-replies among other things. I think this is good way to solve the problem you are probably having with people forgetting to turn-off their vacation messages.

This bug has the details:
http://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=10071

The bug also indicates that the work to add this functionality has already been done on the server-side, so only UI work remains. Maybe there is hope for getting this into 4.5 if you vote for the bug, and make some noise?
