Default email -->php form. is this possible?

I'm currently developing a system for a client that needs the ability to track email conversations about a project. What I need is the ability to have a button the client can push that will open a form and auto fill in fields based on the currently open email.

workflow example:
1.we recieve an email that is for a specific project.
2. we click "archive this communication"
3. a form pops up that automatically fills in some blanks from the open email (sender, recipient, timestamp, body etc)
4. we fill in the remaining blanks in the form
5. we hit "save" and the form goes away (saved to our other system)

Is it possible to build something like this for zimbra? We are mainly php and js developers, but have not yet done any zimbra integration.

We would also like something similar for outgoing.

thanks for your time,
Caleb Kraft

I think, it should be possible.

Have you looked at the Zimbra Zimlets Whitepaper? (It's on the Wiki)

Zimbra is mainly JavaScript - so you shouldn't face much problem.

No, I really haven't. My js guy mainly does simple scripts for transitions and site effects. Have you ever seen any code that would pull data from an email at all? I'm not asking for a complete project rundown so much as maybe some clues as to where to look for similar code to learn from.

There are two classes that might be of use to you: "ZmConv" and "ZmMailMsg".

Using these you can access details about a conversation and also about individual email messages.

Both of these are described in a simple way in the whitepaper.

The Hello World Zimlet on the wiki is also a worthwhile read.

Regarding examples: please ask your JS guy to hack into the existing Zimlets.

Once through, he shouldn't have doubts. If he has, Zimbra Forums "always" help. :-)
