Email Address Autocomplete

Hello, I can not find any information on how to modify the email address autocomplete, I would like to have a zimlet that checks an xml or json url for the email address autocomplete as appose to the normal search.

My reason for this is my contact database which gets added to and edited quite often is in mysql and I would like to have autocomplete from my contacts.

Thanks to anyone who can even point me in the correct direction even just a link to the javascript api for this section would be great.
