Appending to To/CC/BCC fields Zimlet

So I came up with a zimlet idea for our office this week based off of a lack of sleep and reading through the Zimlet documentation, but Im missing a key piece I was hoping someone could elaborate on.

To simply put it, my idea is to add a button in the compose window for messages to insert email addresses from our an Address Book tied to our ERP system.

Can someone point me in the direction where I could find documentation on how to insert email addresses into the To, CC, or BCC fields?
