We are about to lose a significant hosting client to GMail because GMail now have free Salesforce.com integration whereas the current Zimbra Salesforce.com zimlet requires licensing the very expensive Salesforce Enterprise APIs.
The four bugs I can find related to the new version of the Salesforce.com zimlet
Bug 24545 – Salesforce.com zimlet: Salesforce.com Person Accounts not yet accounted for,
Bug 44742 – Update Salesforce Zimlet (3.0),
Bug 47351 – "Connects Zimbra to Salesforce Error", and
Bug 48404 – Include Social, Salesforce & WebEx zimlets as standard zimlets do not appear in pm.zimbra.com for version 6.0.8 as Raja indicated they might above. I know... things get pushed out; it's the nature of the software business.
Bug 44742 indicates the Salesforce zimlet update is now slotted for 6.0.9, but pm.zimbra.com has no target date for 6.0.9.
Two points:
First, I cannot in good conscience ask this client to please wait if I cannot give them an estimated timeframe when 6.0.9 may be released.
Second, since Zimbra have done such a good job making prospective customers understand it is easier than ever to switch groupware platforms, even existing Zimbra customers now frequently re-evaluate their choice of groupware platform.
This client of ours absolutely loves Zimbra; they are reluctant to leave us, even though GMail costs a little less than we do. But they are growing and have adopted Salesforce.com for the same reasons that 2 million others have. They simply cannot justify the huge cost for the Salesforce Enterprise API set--especially when GMail offers salesforce.com integration for free.
At this point, there is no reason for us to call on any existing Salesforce.com users (unless they have already licensed the Enterprise API set).
It is wonderful that Zimbra listens to its customers and prioritizes development based on what current Zimbra users want. But IMHO it would also be helpful if Zimbra gave a similarly high priority to items which enable Zimbra to maintain and/or increase its competitive advantages.
Thanks for listening Zimbra!
With best regards,
Mark
