I don't really think I should mess with the MediaWiki config, as everything works fine except the access from within Zimbra.
But in case anybody with knowledge of cookies and MediaWiki needs the reference:

I found the solution myself: I added the url of Zimbra to the list of sites that Firefox should always accept cookies from.
Now it works.
Strange though, that Firefox (nor IE) did ask if I wanted to accept cookies from the Zimbra domain....
