Default xmbx_search Zimlet fails to deploy

Hello,

I have Zimbra up and running for a testing and possible replacement for exchange, but I seem to have hit my first snag with the xmbx_search.zip Zimlet. The archiving feature is enabled and the Admin UI xmbx search tool works and the admin extension shows xmbx_searchUI in the extension list. However, I can't seem to get the xmbx_search zimlet to deploy. I've tried deploying the xmbx_search 4.5.6 GA Release Zimlet from the CLI and the Admin UI with no luck. I don't see any errors reported in /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log regardless of which method the Zimlet is deployed. I've also restarted tomcat per the installation instructions, but the Zimlet didn't show up in the list of deployed Zimlets after the restart.

Welcome to the forums,

What's your server version #?
su - zimbra
zmcontrol -v

The 4.5.6+ available on the downloads page is 41569 in size.
While the one bundled with 5.0.11 is 96955.
I will get that moved to the 'downloads previous' page.

zmzimletctl undeploy zimbra_xmbxsearch
zmzimletctl listZimlets
-Shouldn't show it anywhere, if needed:
cd /opt/zimbra/mailboxd/webapps/service/zimlet/
rm -r zimbra_xmbxsearch

Then:
cd /opt/zimbra/zimlets-network
zmzimletctl deploy zimbra_xmbxsearch.zip

#zmcontrol -v

Release 5.0.11_GA_2695.RHEL5_64_20081117021643 RHEL5_64 NETWORK edition

I undeployed the Zimlet, from 4.5.6GA, and deployed the one bundled with 5.0.11GA, but it's still showing up in the deployed Zimlet list nor did the 4.5.6GA. I restarted with zmcontrol stop / start. I still don't see it.

Check the 'Admin Extensions' section (not the 'Zimlets' section).

Infact it's showing on the bottom in one of your pics:

You should then see a 'Search Mail' section under Tools.
If it's still not working any errors in your /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log when you deploy?

The Admin UI extension loads fine, in fact, I think they were installed and deployed by default with archiving enabled when I installed the NE5.0.11 packages. The xmbx search tool works fine within the administrative UI works fine, but I thought there was a Zimlet that could be deployed and applied for specific users or COS that would allow other users not logging into the Admin UI to use the search tool. Is this no longer correct?

ZAD core is enabled during setup (or manually later on) - rpm/deb package.
Cross Mailbox search is an admin console extension (we often use the word Zimlet interchangeably).
You can create a new target account then email the desired party to let them know it's ready/provide the server url/username & login credentials:

Realized you may be asking more than just viewing the results in the ZWC with standard user permissions. If you need a non-admin account to kickoff a search / have access to that xmb UI, might file an RFE in bugzilla under the archiving component for an 'archive manager' account type (post the bug # back here so others can find it later).

There's also: Bug 18636 - Archiving: give end-user read-only view of their archive
