[SOLVED] zimlet to save email in a txt file

Hi,
I have installed version 2.1 in ZCS 5.0.9 on CentOS 5.3.
It does not save any message for our installation, and we did not see the configuration page when we double clic on the zimlet.
I have found the following error message on reboot in mailbox.log :

What I notice is for the 'zimbra' user the 'locale' says 'LANG=C', but for the 'root' user the locale says 'LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8'.
What did I made wrong ?

Are there any plans for supporting the desktop version of the software ?

There is another zimlet that allows you to download messages called "Email Downloader", try that.

I'm aware of it.

However, it saves e-mails as a tgz file which is fine on linux systems but might be an issue when forwarding a saved message to a window system as the built-in windows archive tool doesn't support it.

This one seemed to support zip files which is what I'm looking for.

This zimlet is quite different. It use the tgz formatter so it's a save for backup.
The com_starxpert_save zimlet allow to save a mail formated to be read as a simple text file (no need for a mail client or importing the mail back in zimbra to read it).

tgz files are just like Zip files. We can use even winZip or winrar or anything to unzip. Once unzipped, you can see all the contents including ALL the attachments as different files.

Of course the tgz format itself shouldn't be a problem, even on windows.

With email downloader, when I save a mail with an attachment, in the tgz I get a .eml file and a .meta file. I don't get directly the attachment files. As I said, you need a mail client to open the .eml file to read the mail and get the attachments.

Yeah, you are right, they are not exactly the same but you dont need to import it to Zimbra to read it as well.
The thing is, its an email file, so, simply doubleclicking on it would open it in outlook or thunderbird or applemail or entaurage etc -most users would have one of these pre-installed, so they should be fine. And they can access it along with attachments as well, so, I see a lot of advantages - but its just an option.

Hi.

We successfully deployed the Zimlet and it works with just one simple(?) error.
If there are Umlauts in the Subject the filename in the .zip does not contain the umlauts but "++" (two plus signs) instead.

Is that a known issue and is there some workaround?

Hi buk,

This is indeed a known encoding issue depending on the OS and locale you use.
There isn't any workaround for now.
