Adding taskbar

Is it possible to add either a taskbar or a form object to the new email interface, for example where the subject and to/from lines are. I know this is a table, so is there a way to create new elements without mucking with the DOM directly? Cheers.

You can add a button (see the Salesforce (sforce) Zimlet). From that button you can launch your form or make the needed changes to the compose page.
