You could provide the first test if you want ;)
It installed fine and I was very excited. It even starts up fine, but one cannot type anything into the server, username, or password field.
I figured out that if you press F you get to a screen where you can type. Then press done and it appears in the field...very odd behavior.
Also I cannot actually log in. If i try my mail server at mail.domain.net it gives me a 404 which is fine, since I run zimbra on port 81. However if I use mail.domain.net:81 I get a 502 error and am not sure where I can find my log file to actually see what is going on on the tomcat/apache side of things.
Darn, it was worth a shot I guess.
Though both of the issues might already have been addressed by upcoming builds:
What your describing sounds like the fact that direct input mode is not yet supported on the phones with qwerty keyboard. Which means in order to type into the field, you first need to select (fire button), then start typing, then click menu -> ok.
The host field originally needed http:// or https:// prefix in front of the hostname & if you are running on non-standard port you add :# at the end. ex: http://zimbra.domain.com:81
hey, thanks for the quick reply. I tried it with the updated info http://... and now instead of the 502 error I always get, I get a 504 error, so something new and different, but still not "good". Is there a way to see if the request ever actually hits the server? If so which log file should I tail?
nevermind, I did it a few more times and now its back to a 502 error
I've also tested the e61 software on an e61i.
Once I'd figured out the F and then enter the details (thanks sparky), I was able to connect to my (OSS) Zimbra server no problem. I can read all my mail.
So far the issues I've spotted are:
1. I can't enter the recipient into a new email. The "compose message" option comes up but I can't type into the "To:" field and pressing "F" brings up the error "Too many contacts to display. Please refine your search." I can send mail by replying to an existing mail.
2. The search doesn't work - comes up with a blank screen and doesn't let me enter a search.
3. No task sync.
But, having listed the bugs, it looks like a very nice, well designed piece of software - much nicer than Mail for Exchange.
I am thoroughly puzzled by ZME on my Nokia E61i:
1) I can't seem to reply or reply all although composing works for me,
2) I cannot use any of the items in the Actions menu - if I try nothing happens,
3) The "select mode" + key doesn't work, e.g. to get a '7' (mark as Junk) I have to keep the "select mode" + '7' pressed at the same time, sort of kills one-handed typing [Not that marking it as junk works, I only seem to be able to delete :-( ],
4) It seems to take forever to start up - I click on the icon and wait, wait, wait until it eventually starts up.
On the plus side:
a) HTTPS works perfectly (https://<hostname>/),
b) It is good enough to browse messages read-only.
I would really like this to work better as it was one of the major selling points within the organisation for non-Blackberry users (not that we are having much luck with the Zimbra Connector and BES actually...) - if Zimbra needs any willing beta testers I'm here...
Arrigo
P.S. Mail for Exchange is not an option: it takes over the phone and people have their own private accounts set up which they do not wish to surrender.
P.S.2 E61i firmware revision: 2.0633.65.01 and ZimbraME version 0.9(21)
