Default Blackberry Pearl Feedback

Just took the client out for a spin. I am really impressed for the most part. This is the kind of technology that if it is widely deployed can really make a huge huge impact.

The good:
  • The application seemed very fast. Much faster then the blackberry software itself, esp when switching folders.
  • It appears to load emails as you go. Not a problem at all on my BB (very very fast), but I can see this being slow pretty easily.
  • Look and feel is solid.

The Bad:
  • Lost sync once.Had to change folder to get it synchronizing again.

The Ugly:
  • The UI is too wide for the pearls screen. It seems to think it's much wider then it is, so the right hand portion of the screen is off

Cross user mounted directories don't appear to show up as well.

The BlackBerry build is meant to be used for 88xx only. The screen size is a minor issue and it's actually one of those issues that can be fixed easily. However I didn't have good success with Pearl, and you may see occassional crashes.

Mountpoints are not yet supported in the list of the folders.

For not being made for the 88xx, it seems to be fairly stable. No crashes so far.

Thanks Josh. For the Pearl we'll need to build a specific version that sets the screen size. The current BB model is set for the devices with a larger screen. Make sure to add your phone to the list here:

My Pearl works sorta ok too. A couple of things I've noticed that secondary calendars don't seem to work well (I'm not seeing the stuff in them). The login screen doesn't let me type stuff directly in the fields, I have to get a editor window. If I have a newline after the hostname I get a DNS failure, you proabably want to chomp the whitespace after input for the login fields.
