Default How is it "push"?

In the 4.5 announcement it claims:

"Zimbra also offers Zimbra Mobile, which provides over-the-air "push" synchronization to mobile devices without the need for third party software or additional servers for most devices."

I'm running the eval, and I setup my Treo 650. It gets my contacts,
calendar data, and email. Nice. But it does it every 15 minutes
according to the schedule I had to set on the Treo. How exactly is
this "push"? I can't see how push is possible, actually. Can someone please
explain this bit of marketing?

Thanks,

-B

That's not push.

Not sure about the Treo 650, but the wiki does not mention push for it, so it might not be available in your software.
If it is:
Somewhere in your software you can select "push" (in the software from DataViz that I use it is in the tab where you can also schedule mail retrieval).
Then you sync manually and from that time on any mail sent to you is pushed to your mobile phone automatically.

Treo 650 comes with old versions of VersaMail software which does not support push. Treo 700p does support push. Thanks!

Ah, I didn't think the different models would make a difference. I figured since I'm up to date with my software I would have all capabilities. But I do see that the 650 has an older release of Versamail. I guess I'll bother Palm to see if they are going to upgrade the 650.

Thanks!

I have a recollection there's a paid update (version 3.5) to versamail for the 650 and it's $10.

If you are using a Palm Treo the best e-mail software is ChatterEmail. You should check it out:

http://www.chatteremail.com/

I recently "upgraded" to a Treo 700wx and it was a huge step backward as far as e-mail is concerned.

Yes, I second that for a recommendation as an email client - if anyone is looking for a mail client for the Treo ChatterEmail can't be beaten and the support for it is excellent.

I've been using it for quite a while with Zimbra, I recommended it some while back. It's an excellent client and gets mail immediately with IMAP idle on the Zimbra server. The only 'problem' is that the o/p want contacts & calendar which Chatter doesn't do.

Well one solution would be to setup a profile in VersaMail to grab your calendar and contact X number of times a day...and use ChatterMail for a better email client
