Default problem with iPhone and Accepted appointments

When an appointment is accepted on an iPhone, the status is not updated in Outlook. Conversely, when an appointment is accepted in Outlook, the status is not updated on the iPhone.

(This behavior was reported to me after server 5.0.18 upgrade. None of our dozen or more iPhone users reported this issue prior to 5.0.18.)

An appointment invitation is sent to me. I accept it on my iPhone.

- iPhone (either 3.0 or 3.0.1) shows the status as Accepted
- Outlook (either 5.0.16 or 5.0.18) incorrectly shows the status as Tentative
- web client shows the status as Accepted

A second appointment invitation is sent to me. I accept it in Outlook.

- iPhone incorrectly shows the status as Tentative
- Outlook shows the status as Accepted
- web client shows the status as Accepted

A third appointment invitation is sent to me. I accept it in the web client.

- iPhone, Outlook, and web client each show the status as Accepted

I can supply logs, if helpful. Thanks.

Are you using IMAP on the iphone or is it set to an exchange connection?
Same question for Outlook, how is that connecting to Zimbra?

My suspicion is that IMAP is being used for both and the IMAP command for 'Accept this appointment' is being sent incorrectly, and all imap devices see that as a tentative accept, but the zimbra server and by extension, the web client, are listening for the incorrect response, and set the status to the expected accepted

Of course, this theory is useless if the iphone and outlook are using different protocols to connect.

Thanks for thr reply. However, no IMAP. I'm using Exchange on the iPhone and Zimbra Connector for Outlook 5.0.18 with Outlook.

There seem to be several related issues floating around. A couple from bugzilla:

Bug 36249 – iPhone meeting acceptance
Bug 39358 – accept/decline response from iPhone does not update status on attendee's copy of appointment

Related, perhaps, though my issue is exclusively with iPhone and Outlook. The web client is always accurate no matter where the appointment is accepted.

When a meeting is accepted in Outlook, the iPhone still shows Tentative.

When a meeting is accepted on the iPhone, then Outlook still shows Tentative.

Well, I seem to run into something similar, and I agree that it may not be exactly covered by the reported bugs. I use iPhone 3.0, Mail/iCal, and ZWC, and I haven't had time really to try to reproduce the exact sequence of events. If you can with your environment, I'd urge you to open a bugzilla bug and let us know about it in this thread.

Zimbra Support has confirmed this issue is related to one of the existing bugs.

For the benefit of others reading this thread, how about posting a link to the bug report that this applies to.

Support did not mention a specific bug. That's why I didn't mention a bug number in my previous post. A search of bugzilla for "iphone" produces several results. About three of the bugs are related to appointments. I have subscribed to these three:

Bug 36249 – iPhone meeting acceptance
Bug 39358 – accept/decline response from iPhone does not update status on attendee's copy of appointment
Bug 39429 – Calendar item acceptence from iphone causes local failure notice in outlook
