HTC Magic zimbra connection

I recently purchased an htc magic smartphone ( with google android OS).

I've been able to connect to my zimbra account using 3rd party software, "TouchDown", however touchdown is not free and my trial expires in a few days.

I would rather not have to purchase a $US 24.99 product, so if I could get the magic's built in email program to connect, or if there is a free solution, that would be beter.

the HTC Magic has a program to connect to Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, will this connect to zimbra?

I don't know much about zimbra/exchange so any help would be appreciated.

If your HTC Magic really supports it, you should be able to set it up to connect to your ZCS server (just like you did with TouchDown).

Google, who controls the Android OS project, currently doesn't include any Exchange support in Android. However, just like any other Linux distributions, others are free to include other software in their "versions" of the OS. That's what HTC has done, and so the HTC Magic comes bundled with ActiveSync support.

If your HTC Magic really supports it, you should be able to set it up to connect to your ZCS server (just like you did with TouchDown).

Unfortunately, we are around 3-4 people in our company with HTC Magics, and we're not able to use ActiveSync against our Zimbra solution.
I'm not sure which version of Zimbra we're using (can't find any "About" in the web interface - how can I find out?), but where TouchDown worked flawlessly, the HTC ActiveSync solution is not able to log in when I have filled out the following:
Email address
Server address
Domain
Username
Password
...and checked the "use SSL" option.
What happens is we get the following message: "Error. Authentication failed. Please verify username and/or password."
As I said (and the other poster also pointed out), the software TouchDown works without problems.

Is this something you can look into?
I can give you the Zimbra version if you tell me where/how to find it :-)

USing the method described to get version number I see that we are a bit outdated though..

Hi,

Symptoms is similar as 'grenness' symptoms. We are getting "Error. Authentication failed. Please verify username and/or password." Settings have been tripple checked.

And yes, we have the commercial NE Zimbra server and Mobile option turned on for all accounts.

@cistern64 will have to answer for himself, but we do have a Network Edition, the Standard Edition, which includes Zimbra Mobile.

From the user's perspective, the problem is I'm not able to log in to the Zimbra server to perform an ActiveSync syncronization.
When filling out the username, password, domain info, I get a "wrong username/password" response.

With TouchDown, everything works great.
Since I haven't heard that something is broken with the HTC Magic's ActiveSync implementation - it works against MS Exchange servers, I'm suspecting a bug in Zimbra.

The first place you should look for problems in Zimbra is bugzilla, in this case there are two bugs associated with that phone:

Bug 38854 – Support for HTC Magic (Running Android OS with ActiveSync support)
Bug 35421 – Red face HTC TYTN II push mail problem with zimbra not with exchange 2007

You should vote on any bug reports (or RFEs) that you have an interest in getting fixed. As you're both NE customer then you should also open a support case and reference the bug report that matches your problem (or file a new report) and get the case attached to the relevant bug report. While it's a good idea to ask in the ofurms if anyone else has the problem the most expedient is to file bug reports and open support cases, that will get the attention of developers.

So we don't have to keep asking, could you both update your forum profiles with the output of the following:
