Default iPhone email disappears

A user started noticing that email is disappearing in a given day without it being deleted from the server. We have removed his account from the iPhone, added it back in, and set the number of days to sync to 3. Email appears for Tues, Wed, Thurs, and Friday but there are emails missing from Friday. For example, all the emails received in the am are not appearing and only a select pm emails display.

Has anyone ever seen this? any advice?

Yes, with few users. Removing and again adding the account in the iPhone resolved the problem...
