| | | Ugh, my apologies, you're right, I just did a search and see that this exact issue was covered back in July.
It's a shame that this is considered to be "working as designed". In my opinion this is broken (for those that use IMAP). I don't think it's reasonable to expect the average user to know about this and remember to manually expunge their mailbox each time they do a delete or move. MobileMe handles deletes without any extra actions...
FWIW, other than this one issue I've found Zimbra to be a fantastic product. Every other function as worked perfectly and Zimbra has exceeded my expectations. |

Some IMAP clients (such as Thunderbird) will have a feature automatically expunge when the client is closed.

| | | I have been experiencing this problem over the past week with my iPhone. After much testing I have discovered the following:
1. INBOX on Apple Mail syncs correctly with Zimbra Web and vice versa.
2. INBOX on iPhone (set up using Exchange/Active sync) fails to reflect messages moved or deleted from Apple Mail client. However changes made using Zimbra Web DO show up correctly. As mentioned previously, clicking off Inbox in Mail client and back seems to force a refresh.
3. Thunderbird suffers from the same issues as Apple Mail.
4. My current solution has been to set up my iPhone Zimbra account using IMAP instead of the recommended Exch/Active sync method. I used exactly the same settings as my Mail client and now moved or deleted messages made in Mail are reflected correctly on iPhone (although this is not pushed). Personally I would rather have an Inbox that syncs correctly and live without 'push'.
So to conclude is the problem with Active Sync?
System info: iPhone 2.2/ Apple Mail on OSX 10.4 and 10.5

| | do these "deleted messages" still appear in ZWC? |

| | | Yes. Also, I can confirm there is no difficulty if the message is deleted from ZWC. Here some detailed steps to replicate the issue:
1] Send message to account from somewhere
2] Read the message on any of ipod, ZWC, or Apple Mail
3] Delete the message from apple mail
4] Observe that the message is deleted from perspective of apple mail and ZWC but no notification is pushed to the ipod. (Unlike when you read the message from apple mail when instantly the ipod is told to remove the unread blue dot)
5] No number of refreshes from the ipod get rid of that orphaned message
Notes: This is true regardless of setting in apple mail about weather to move deleted messages or simply erase them. Also in apple mail the automatically compact folder option is checked but grayed out.
Our site just upgraded to 5.0.11 over the weekend and I retested it just now. |

| | | One other thing I've noticed is that if I select my Inbox in Apple Mail and get info (Apple key + I) the Account info window shows a higher number of messages than are displayed in the actual message window. i.e Inbox has 8 messages, but I delete 2 so only 6 left displayed, but get info shows a message count of 8.
This is also reflected in Zimbra web - Inbox displays 6 messages but shows 1-6 of 8 in top right (see attached grab). Does this mean that are 8 messages on the server, but it's only displaying 6 in the window?
If I then check iPhone it lists 8 messages in it's Inbox.
If I quit and re-start Apple Mail then everything rights itself eventually. |

| | | Hmmm, have just tried this myself :-
1) Send email from GM to zimbra
2) It appeared in ZWC and iPhone
3) Read message in ZWC and read notification was pushed to iPhone
4) Deleted message from ZWC and delete notification was pushed to iPhone
Second test was to perform everything from iPhone and all notifications were sent successfully to ZWC; read and delete notifications.

| | | I have performed similar tests and have concluded that iPhone and ZWC work fine between each other. The problem arises when messages are deleted in Mail or Thunderbird. |

| | | I ran another experiment today:
I was using IMAP for my Apple Mail (Leopard) client. Today, I created a new mailbox in Apple Mail, but instead of IMAP, I configured it as an Exchange mailbox, using the Zimbra web access server URL as the Outlook web access server (btw, this is how my iPhone mail is configured). It worked for a while, but no joy now.
I did notice that when I deleted a msg, it did trigger a download on my iPhone, implying that an "event" did occur (I was able to see this behavior many times). The msg just didn't move to the Trash mailbox. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | Why Join?
