Default [SOLVED] Error Synchronizing

I have just tried to setup a smartphone to sync wirelessly but cannot solve this error.

Zimbra version is 5.0.6_GA_2313, the phone is a Samsung i325 running windows mobile 6. I'm not using SSL at this stage to remove the self-signed cert issue.

The sync.log file does show a 401 Unauthorized message which from previous posts I've seen is normal, it then continues on to show the folder hierachy in XML but the phone just displays the error synchronizing message for a few seconds then back to the blank email screen.

Any help is appreciated thanks.

Yes I understand that as stated.

The sync.log it then goes on to provide the hierachy XML but the folders do not appear on the phone - instead it stops with an error "Error Synchronizing" which is my actual problem.

Default Solved

OK solved - the phone had to be synced initially by connecting to a PC running activesync via a USB cable. Once that was done it would sync ok via the cellular network.

That's wrong, and I would strongly advise against doing that. Usually you get into more trouble by mixing the two modes.

Default Can't be wrong if it worked ;-)

I didn't mix the mode, it was still set to sync to the zimbra server - but by connecting it to the PC it used the PC's own network link to talk to the zimbra server and successfully perform the initial sync.

I'm guessing by "mixing the two modes" you're suggesting that I synced it to Outlook rather than direct to the server however this is not the case.

I've been using it for two days and it is syncing nicely via the cellular network.

Hope this makes sense to anyone who is having the same issue.

OK I see what you are saying now. It sounds like you don't have a reliable data connection. Initial sync does take more bandwidth, so that could explain what you are experiencing.
