can you continue to monitor this for us?
my hosting provider also has upgraded, but this has not fully solved the issue for me. (i have a feeling that it occurs less frequently, but no logs to back this up.)

The bug looks closed in bugzilla, so it sounds as if this will make it into 5.0.9? Is there a time frame on this? I am going to upgrade from the OSS version to the Network Edition just for this feature which is why I am asking.
this is in 5.0.9, which will be release very soon, probably next week.
What version of Zimbra is running on the Zimbra hosted demo accounts? I have set up a test account there and I ran into this same problem - dead battery after four hours. I was able to figure out that it was a Zimbra account problem by tunring off all accounts and trying one by one. The constant network access (GSM noise) only occured with the test Zimbra account. Has it been upgraded yet? If so the issue still may exist.
I hope this gets fixed soon, I am evaluating different email systems for our organization and really like Zimbra, but since we have quite a few iPhones this would be a large issue.
Thanks.
Welcome to the forums,
The hosted demo is currently 5.0.6_GA_2244.RHEL4_64 still. (Type $set:get version in the main search bar of the AJAX web-client.)
Bug 29903 - iPhone 2.0 Zimbra <-> ActiveSync Push Mail Does Not Put Phone into Standby Mode, Consuming Battery Quickly is marked fixed in 5.0.9 which was just released yesterday.
