I have to speculate because being a hosted ZImbra user I dont have access to a sync.log file.

However, I have been a AT&T Windows Mobile Exchange user for 3yrs. And notice this same problem with Mobile 5.0 and Push Exchange, and 2G phones.

I could hear constant cellphone radio static interfering with my computer speakers and landline. Looking at Activesync on the phone showed attempting sync that never would complete and was stuck syncing.

This caused massive battery drain and was usually fixed by a reboot of the phone.

My 2g iPhone 2.0 and newly configured Zimbra activesync account, causes huge amount of cell radio static on my work landline. I will be on the landline for 30 minutes, and the radio interruption does not ever stop.

I have to turn off the iPhone just to keep talking on the phone without going crazy.

Ok, here is my simple test.

Turn off push = no constant radio static on speakers or landline.

Manual Fetch = radio static on speakers and landline, but stops after completed manual sync.

Turn back push on = constant radio static on computer speakers and landline.

This is my speculation.

Just turn on PUSH MAIL for now. Contacts/Calendar support appears to be issue with syncing. I think I've isolated the issue.

So if you are going to enable ActiveSync, disable it for Contacts and Calendars until a fix is here. We're doing that for all our iPhones here.

JJ, what is your server environment your test system? RHEL5.2?

Default Me too

just chipped in to say I have the same situation. I have an IPhone configured to sync with a hosted Zimbra account. When set to fetch via push, the battery lasted around 4 hours total, which is not near the full day it usually lasts.

When setting fetch to every 15 min, the battery usage went back to normal. I thought it was simply supposed to be like that (which sucks by the way) until I saw this thread. I had it set to push Mail and Calendar only -NOT contacts.

By the way, when setting to fetch via push, my iphone didn't receive any email automatically when left alone -only until I forcefully entered the mail app. I realize our host provider has yet to upgrade to 5.0.8 and we are using 5.0.7. Is push only supported on 5.0.8? has anyone gotten it to work on 5.0.7? sorry for the off-topic, will probably open a new thread. But -can confirm the battery issue.

jomaldo,

Just turn on MAIL ONLY. Turn off push Contacts and Calendar. You'll have a battery that'll last the entire day if you just turn on MAIL only. Tell me if that works.

Not syncing contacts is not a option. If you turn off syncing the contacts disappear from the phone.

When Push is turn on, you cannot sync contacts and calender via iTunes.

I have 200 contacts that I need everyday.

I am also having the same push problem with my hosted Zimbra account.

Push works for awhile than dies. Apple has a support page for this issue with Exchange servers. Need to change a push heart beat setting on the Exchange server.

Made some ZImbra servers are having the same keep alive issue?

We are hosting our own Zimbra installation and do not have this problem. None of our users has reported it either.

My iPhone syncs only when new things arrive, I can hear it because is mostly sits next to my speaker which then emits the known static...

Battery life is absolutely normal.

I think I'm seeing this issue as well. However I have ONLY mail syncing turned on (Cal and Contacts are off.)

The phone seems to get quite warm, and the battery can be rapidly consumed over about 3-5 hours.

I am on a shared/managed Zimbra host, their version is 5.0.6, they are migrating to 5.0.8 this weekend I believe. (Is 5.0.8 any assistance in fixing this issue?) I'm with 01.com.

I have no hard data to share, however I was going to time the next full charge/discrage with PUSH ON, and the following charge/discharge with PUSH OFF (and probably auto check every 15 min.)

I've seen the same issue on 01.com but i've been waiting until the 5.0.8 update before i really start to pay any attention, since the iphone is really not supposed to work on 5.0.6.

so i'm on 5.0.8 now and everything works, but i'm definitely seeing the battery usage issue as well. It's easy to tell something is going on by looking at the usage time statistics, this is with the phone just sitting idle doing nothing, normally usage would be just a couple of minutes.

My hosted service provider upgraded to 5.0.8 and now all the battery and push issues have been fixed.
