Blackberry Desktop without Outlook possible?

Looked around, but couldn't find a direct answer. I've got a couple of Blackberry users that currently use Blackberry Desktop to sync calendar items. As a rule, I'm trying to bypass Outlook for all of our users, and allow them to use the web client only. Is there a way to sync their Blackberry's to Zimbra without Outlook?

They currently get their e-mail through BIS, provided by AT&T. And no, I don't have an Exchange system or BES available.

I don't believe that there is any way to do over-the-air sync for Blackberry without a BES or using a 3rd party BES provider.
