So will there be some kind of plug-in to enable Zimbra to work with it in the same way there is the BES plug-in ?

Actually, it should work like any Windows Mobile device : the iPhone itself will contain the needed software (ActiveSync Exchange client) and it will "speak" with Zimbra Mobile.

We should need no additional software (either on iPhone or Zimbra server), just the 2.0 firmware on one side and Zimbra Mobile on the other.

Well, I'd like to say "Hell Yeah!"

Making the iphone jump through itunes and outlook in order to talk with zimbra is awful. Having it do it 'correctly' will be great.

Would it be worth developing a native app anyway though? I know it's difficult to say until we can try out firmware 2.0, but it should be a simple matter to create a native iphone app that would deal with mail/contact/calendar syncing over edge & wifi, possibly even one that does not require Zimbra Mobile?
