Changing outgoing display name

I plan on running zimbra in a school division with a 5000+ userbase. Because the users are students protection of the childs identity is a huge issue. Currently when you send an email from Zimbra the display name on the recievers end is the users full name. I need to be able to change this to display the email address instead and still keep the first name and last name in the LDAP description info. How can I go about changing this?

Do you have to have the names in the first/last attributes? Could you put there names in the description of the account? I'll take a look to see if there is anyway to override this maybe with a small change of the code but offhand don't think there is.

We'd like to keep the name in the attributes field to make searching the GAL easier. Should this be something to file as a feature request in bugzilla?

Have you tried just setting the 'Display name' in the admin UI to the email address? May need to restart Tomcat before testing or wait ~ 15min as we cache the account lookups.

Currently when we send an email, GAL gives us the Email & Name fields.
Can we modify these fields ie. instead of Name can I have the mobile no. or something like that?

Please guide.
