Default BBS / Forum Integration

My Institution is transitioning from FirstClass to Zimbra. And one of the most difficult issues we face is replacing the forum/Bulletin Board functionality of FirstClass to provide community announcements, classroom collaboration and threaded messaging. We are looking for a product that can authenticate off of CAS and provide RSS feeds.

It sure would be nice if Zimbra had the forum features built in ... and I view it as necessary if they want to be "the leader or next-generation messaging and collaboration"

Any thoughts? Any suggestions for such BBS/forum software?

How about using Joomla ? Some good work is being performed in the OSS community for integrating with ZCS :- [SOLVED] PHP Class for easy access to Zimbra SOAP API

We still have old NNTP (newsgroup) BBs. One of the guys here found an open source application that provides a web interface to NNTP newsgroups....and then whipped up a simple Zimlet for it. The web interface is not very fancy...and the Zimlet is pretty basic...but it works for now.

What ever happened to integration with Moodle? A single sign-on between Zimbra and Moodle would be great to see.

I remember hearing that someone was working on a Moodle Zimlet but that seems to have faded away.
