I copied some contacts (+300) from the locatl personal folders to the zimbra folder 'contacts', most of them were copied successfully, but some apparently didn't. I have no idea why.
What I tried
-creating a new address book and import to there.
-upgrading the connector to 4.5.5 (latest on the server).

I have attached a .xml file from one of the 'server sync failures'

i've downloaded your attachment but the xml file seems corrupt. can you reattach or post the xml directly? you can also open a support case at support@zimbra.com and you can forward the failures message that was generated.
