Bill,
Thanks for the prompt reply. The reality is that our people are not going to adopt the web client quickly - maybe over a couple of years if at all, and we have other software applications which integrate with Outlook, such as our CRM system (Pivotal), which will not be able to use the functionality of the web client for sharing of calendar information with the CRM tool - it only integrates to Outlook. If Zimbra are not able to provide an Outlook 2000 connector then my choices are:
- upgrade 200 Outlook 2000 clients to Outlook 2003
- implement MS Exchange
- implement Scalix
Pretty obvious which way I'll have to go. It would be a shame because I don't like Scalix' mail architecture, but no way am I paying over another fortune to M$. Commercial reality dictates that adoption of the web client is a no no for many potential customers however good it may be, and common sense dictates that one does not upgrade software that is doing a perfectly OK job such as Outlook 2000 unless it's really the only solution.
Anyway, I've escalated it to my sales contact, we'll see if he likes the idea of losing a $21,000 deal because of the Outlook connector!
Cheers,
