Default ZCO install as SYSTEM failed

I try to install the Zimbra Outlook Connector silently as SYSTEM user (we have a deployment software) on XP computers which have Outlook SP2 installed.

I see in the MSI log that it can't find the path of mapisvc.inf

Is there a solution for this issue?

This is the log :

Is your Windows PATH environment variable set with the directory where MAPISVC.inf is?

Yes. The PATH is well set and the file MAPISVC.inf is available in that directory.

Well if that's true, then perhaps this line:

CA LOG: This may indicate a broken Office installation.

is correct. Perhaps you should try reparing or reinstalling Office. First, try to run the FIXMAPI utility.

I tried the Fixmapi, but that didn't change anything.

In fact, the install works when you are logged on as an admin user.

Does the install program wants to access the HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys in the registry? Because it's unavailable when you are logged as SYSTEM.

With a MSI, I never had problems to make installs as SYSTEM... quite strange.

We first look in HKCU, then HKLM. Any updates a user does will go into HKCU. If the field is not there, we'll use HKLM. There were a couple of fields that were HKLM only, but that would only come into play if you're using the MAPI support bar. During install, it should make no difference.

But -- you have to install as Administrator.

I think SYSTEM user has the same rights as an Administrator.

The only difference is that user profiles are not loaded.

So, is there a mean to achieve properly the install (are there options, or, ... ?)

We deploy our softwares through network installations silently for our users, so we need to be logged as SYSTEM...

Thank you for your time

The lack of access to user profiles is critical here and is indeed the reason why the current installer fails for a SYSTEM user.
The standard routine (FGetComponentPath) used to locate MSMAPI32.DLL relies in part on being able to read the current user's locale settings. And since the SYSTEM user can't access HKCU registry keys, it's unable to locate the DLL.
I'm not aware of an immediate workaround - I think we would need to remove this dependency on the locale from the installer and will raise a bug to that effect.

Here is a clue to solve this problem.

Some paths are available in the registry under HKLM like :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\SharedDlls

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Comp onents\B4AE92CC2CB71D119A12000A9CE1A22A\ for the localized version of msmapi32.dll (under value 1033, 1036,...)

I hope you will resolve this bug.
