| | | Rebuild .zdb after Zimbra restore/disaster recovery Hi everyone
Most of our users use Thunderbird/IMAP to connect... they're on Macs so that was the best way back when we were running Exchange.
IMAP now works for us even better than before!
However there's still a few users who insist on using Outlook.
I understand that you need to rebuild the .zdb after an upgrade to Zimbra.
What's the best way of doing this?
I've found that simply clicking Send/Receive doesn't do it... nothing happens.
And I've ended up deleting and re-creating the Outlook profile which means messing about with settings.
I also tried deleting the .zdb file but then couldn't get it re-built without deleting and re-creating the Outlook profile.
Am I missing a really obvious way to do this?
Cheers, B

| | | Where did you see that you need to rebuild the zdb after upgrading Zimbra? I've not seen that anywhere and would like to know if it's true, so I can put necessary procedures in place.
I do see you should rebuild zdb after restoring the server--presumably also if the specific account is restored.

| | | Actually it was just an assumption and having read those docs it seems it's incorrect.
I've edited the title of this thread accordingly.
I had to do a disaster recovery recently after stumbling over the LDAPS bug during an upgrade from 6.0.5 to 6.0.6 and that was pretty horrible having to re-create a bunch of user Outlook profiles.
I tried to just delete the .zdb but that failed spectacularly so re-creating the profile was the only way I found.
Just wondered if there was another method I should try... from the docs it seems not |

| | | So after a Zimbra upgrade, what's the best way to upgrade the Outlook Connector without having to re-sync the mailbox?
Is it just a case of uninstalling the existing Outlook Connector and installing the latest version? Or would I have to re-create the profile in this instance?

| | | I've always just run the new installer for ZCO. It asks to upgrade, and I say "yes". No need to uninstall, re-create, or re-sync.
That said, if you ever do have to resync, you might consider setting the option that just downloads headers. It enormously speeds up the process.
I'm not sure what happens if you subsequently turn off the option--whether it does a "catch up" download of all the old mail, or if it just changes the download policy for new stuff. |

| | | Ok that's great info.
Because I'm looking to be upgrading from 6.0.5 to 6.0.7 in the next few days, once it's released so will need to u/g the ZCO as well
I assume it does a catch-up on the next send/receive but now you mention it I'm not sure. |

| | | Note: you don't have to upgrade the ZCO when you upgrade ZCS. In fact I still had some 5.0.x ZCOs running against ZCS 6.0.6.1 for a while. But it's usually a good idea to upgrade the ZCOs, for feature improvements and bugfixes. You just don't need to do so right away. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | Why Join?
