Connecting Zimbra with any new client application

Dear all,
I am a java trainee and I hope any one help me because both me and my team members in an java project and we are going to built a client application like outlook and I want to ask in that case how i can connect Zimbra mail server with this application ,

You'll want to use IMAP for mail, CalDAV for calendar/task list, and CardDAV for contacts. These are all open standards (RFC-based) supported by the latest version of Zimbra.
