Default Initial shared calendar Sync is slow

Using Zimbra Collaboration Server:
Release 6.0.4_GA_2038.UBUNTU8 UBUNTU8 NETWORK edition

And Outlook Connector:

6.0.4_GA_2040_6.0.5817.4

When I add a shared calendar from Outlook client - File > Open > Other user's mailbox.

The Initial sync of a shared calendar can take quite a while (10 or 15 mins) to populate.

It feels like subsequent syncs are faster.

Is there a technical reason for the delay and what should I expect as "normal'?
I'd like to be able to predict or track when a calendar will actually show up.

Any insight would be much appreciated I am trying to evaluate Zimbra as a possible replacement for an SBS environment.

Initial syncs will always be slower because you're syncing everything. Subsequent syncs only sync the delta. You can use the MaxInitialDCalAge registry value to limit the amount of data that gets synced from a delegate calendar. This can speed things up by orders of magnitude. (Bug 41119)

Thanks for the reply.

I am seeing the problem on calendars that only have 1 or 2 entries and therefore not very much to sync and it is not consistent, I don't always see it.

I actually suspect that I have some server performance issues. The installation is running on a VM.

I'm going to migrate and test against a different server setup in a LAB and observe for now. Ensure that I have a good server platform and test again.

Thanks again.
