Default Problems with Business Contact Manager

Does anybody use Zimbra, Outlook and the Business Contact Manager plug-in.

The connector plugin worked fine, then when we tried to import the old contacts it freaked out, now we can't even get BCM to load to get the contacts out of it.

Default Business Contact Manager problems

I certainly know what you mean.
had BCM freeze a couple of times, could not do anything but uninstall it, took all my addresses into it's dark grave. happened on 2 computers.
attempts to reinstall are not fruitful, as it installs nicely, does not show up in MS outlook and the only 2 options on the Menu bar are the help and the tour options.
there is nothing that will start the programme.

Anybody know anything about that?

Cheers

Default bcm

We are about to lose a client because of this functionality in outlook. We've set up test systems and it is pretty clear that zimbra is not compatible with BCM. It installs and the plug-in's appear appropriately, but as soon as you try to add a new client outlook crashes.

Just sending another ping out there to the community, has anyone found a workaround or a fix for zimbra and BCM to play nice in the sandbox?

Thanks!

Brad

BCM should work with the connector (I assume that's what you're talking about). Has anyone raised a case with support or filed an entry in bugzilla about any problems you've encountered?

Yes, that is what I am talking about, the BCM and connector marriage.

I submitted a support request a minute ago, and one of my tech's had also conversed with your support team and was told it should work, they have heard of other people using it but he got the feeling from the conversation that it wasn't "supported".

We've done installs from scratch. Install outlook 2003 and BCM, do updates, install zimbra connector, configure, open outlook, add new BCM client, *crash*.

And bugzilla appears to have no bugs regarding this.

Yes, I've seen your case come in.

Our opinion is that it should work, the reason you see no entries in bugzilla is because nobody has reported any problems with it (if they've used it they haven't told us).

We need to have a case entered with us to get a definitive answer on whether it will work/won't work or isn't supported. While Zimbra staff do answer posts on these forums it is done in our spare time and we don't spot everything that goes through here. NE customers should always raise a case with support (if an answer isn't forthcoming here) and OSS users should file a bugzilla report.

Default help us help you

hi,

just want to make sure that tech support will have all the information needed to debug this issue. please try to do the following:

1) enable ZCO logging. the ZCO log control application is found in the service provider DLL folder. for me it is in: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 and it is called ZCOLogCtl.exe. you should enable logging and HTTP logging. if you set max log size to 0 it means that there is no max log size and everything will get logged. of course, this also means that those log files could get quite bit and take up disk space. if you are going to launch outlook specifically to reproduce this issue, please delete or move the existing log files before launching outlook so that we can minimize the searching within those files. once things start working OK, then maybe consider turning off logging if disk space is an issue.

2) if it crashes, try to generate a crash dump.
see this link: CoreDump - ZimbraWiki

once you gather all this information, please pass it off to tech support. otherwise we are limted to trying to reproduce this in house which doesn't always happen. if you get us logs and core dumps, we can try to avoid the "works for me" situation.

thanks!

I gathered the info, attached the documents to my support case. The dump didn't work. It installed and configured properly, but it creates no dump file. Fyi.
