Disabling GAL sync in Outlook

According to this wiki arcticle:

It looks like you can disable GAL syncing for the Outlook connector. We need to do this for some of our users, but I can't find how to disable GAL sync. Some of our users don't have a GAL so they get a GAL sync failure. We'd like to eliminate this by turning off GAL sync. Does anyone know how to do this?

what version of ZCO are you using?

We're running server version and ZCO 5.0.13

And in 5.0.14 you'll want to keep an eye on these which will give a better experience with sharing when gal sync is disabled:

If you're running anything later than 5.0.13.2902, you have this capability in the Outlook UI. Tools->Send Receive->Global Address List. Then click the appropriate mode.

The registry value in that version is HKCU\Software\ZIMBRA\GalSyncMode. 0 is enabled, 1 is manual, and 2 is disabled.

Note that in 5.0.14 (specifically the fix to bug 35196), the default value will be in HKLM. Any user changes will go to HKCU.
