Default Zimbra converting Outlook email to contacts?

Hello,

I've got a mystery I'm hoping someone can solve. I have a family
member using MS Outlook 2007 on a PC running Vista. She receives
email at her college address and she has Zimbra software on her
machine, which I believe forwards or converts emails to Outlook.

I have seen, on several occasions, emails in her inbox get converted
to contacts - right before my eyes. After they get converted, the
contact just has a random (or at least unknown) name to her. It looks
like someone had sent her a contact (.vcf file) in the first place.
The interesting thing is that on her college email site, I can see the
original email. So, the conversion is occuring somewhere between
Zimbra and Outlook.

I searched Google but didn't find any posts on this issue. In
thinking that there must have been some email file corruption, I ran
the Inbox Repair tool on her .pst file and her Zimbra file. This
fixed the problem for about 2 days, but unfortunately, the problem
just returned.

Does anyone have any tips on how to diagnose this problem? Her MS
Office disk is back at school and her college Help Desk is on break.
So, doing an uninstall/reinstall and/or calling the college tech
support line is not an option until she is back at school.

Thanks in advance.

I looked in Add/Remove Programs, but didn't see the version of the software installed. However, this is Vista, and I'm used to Windows XP. So, maybe I am not looking in the right spot.

I did a search for any files beginning with Zimba, but all I found was a shortcut called zimbra.zdb, which didn't seem to have a file version.

Can you tell me how to determine the version of the ZCO software installed?

Many thanks.

In outlook go to Help menu.
There should be "About" for Zimbra Outlook connector.
Or go to some path like this.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
and check version of lsmssp32.dll

Henry,

In the Outlook Help menu, the versions of Zimbra are as follows:

Client: 5.0.2706.9
Server: 5.0.9_GA_2500

Hope that helps in your diagnosis.

Henry,

Can you check your sources to see if there is anything my family member can do about her emails getting converted to Outlook contacts? It is happening a lot now and her Tech Support at college won't open up until mid January.

I'd appreciate any assistance you can offer.

I've cheked. This version should work fine.
Is it clean install or there was any older version installed and after that upgraded to 5.0.2706.9 ?

Henry,

It was a clean install. In thinking that there must have been some corruption, last night I uninstalled and reinstalled the Zimbra app. I was hoping that the Zimbra client would copy down ALL the mail from her college server. It seemed to do so for her folders, but not her Inbox or Sent Mail. So, I copied over her saved .zdb file from her prior install. After all that, she still had the same issue.

Unfortunately, the rate of occurrence of this issue in her Inbox is escalating, not diminishing. The only other thing I thought to do was to uninstall and then get a 3rd party program to remove ALL remnants of Zimbra from the registry. I did check and there are references to Zimbra in the registry even after an uninstall. I was thinking that would work if the cause was some registry setting. But, if the issue is at the server end, then doing what I propose wouldn't help.

Any thoughts on going forward?

Thanks,
Scotty81

That can be because you copied old ZDB.
So create new profile and if there is no emails synced enable logging and post or PM logs.
