Default Disable Cache Mode in Outlook connector?

Got the Connector working and connected to my mailbox.

I don't see any way to get the connector to not cache all the mailbox data on the client. Is there a way to not cache the mailbox data?

I can see that their are times when having a cached copy works well. But I can't see this being the only way and the default.
* Staff use different machines to access email via outlook
* Staff use a laptop on a trip periodically and often for a short time often over slow to medium speed links.

Both of these use cases would be a paint to deal with in cache mode.

I can understand a light cache mode that caches the headers etc but not the messages.

Suggestions?

Cached mode is the only currently supported mode for ZCO. I believe that there is already an RFE regarding only caching headers and retrieving message bodies (and attachments).

Several options to 'workaround' this:

a: Present Outlook as a published application (or part of published desktop) under citrix or comparable serverbased-environment and store the cached files centrally.
b: If using Windows: create roaming profiles for your users that point to a centralized location for their outlookfiles.
Don't know how to work with something like roaming profiles under linux but expect it must be possible..

option a maybe not applicable but option b should be..
Hope this helps.

Peter

All good ideas thanks..

We are a small shop and don't use citrix, we try to keep is simple and consistant for the users. No matter where they are connecting from. Desktop in the office, laptop on the road or roaming in the office.

Roaming profile or mapping the cache location on the server is an interesting idea, though if the user opened outlook on two systems at the same time there would be trouble. We stopped using roaming proifiles since they deplayed login and logout times an They also spread registry mess. When a user messes up their settings, we rebuilt the system. Then they login and mess it up again..

Also trains the users to keep important data on the server.

I just voted for bug 11962, but it is marked as resolved just *yesterday*! I wonder when this will make into a release? We are just at the final decison making process for Zimbra NE, and may have to support some Outlook clients, so this is a concern for us. The thought of large ZDB files duplicating mailboxes doesn't sound too exciting!

This feature (headers only) will be in our 6.0.0 release, slated to come out at the end of July.
