Default Changing Outlook Mail Identity

Hi,

we are changing our main Web address and Email domain.

In Zimbra it's a simple matter of setting each user to use an Email alias from the new domain but with Outlook it's more complicated.

So, I just want advice on the best way to do this.

Is it best to create a separate POP3 identity through Outlook pointing at the Zimbra Server with the new domain email name and leave the Zimbra Server with all the users on the old email domain. Then just let them use the new domain email alias as their default email address?

Or should I just force each User through the Zimbra Admin GUI to the new Email domain under 'General Information' and will this set Outlook to the new domain email when I re-install the connector?

In other words, is changing the email domain in the 'General Information', 'Account Name' section for each User, (the bit after the '@' sign), on the Admin GUI the same as just letting the User set a different default Mail Identity from their Aliases?

Sorry, some things are difficult to explain in text, at least they are for me!

Russ

See both of these threads:

Zimbra Outlook Profile - can't change "From" address

-Since you mention the connector I'm moving this from installation > outlook connector section
(it will automatically redirect so you don't have to go hunting for it or anything)

Thanks,

I see now it's quite simple but unfortunately, so am I!

Thing is I don't think I've got the authentication right!

I think that to use the new email domain by default in Outlook I have to set the dummy POP account be the default email account so Users don't have to select the new address each time (which they will moan about). But when I restart Outlook it crashes because of this, complaining about not being able to open folders.
This bit isn't mentioned in the enhance/bug so I'm a little unsure.
Is it just a question of putting the right Zimbra details in the POP account Outlook setting (Username, password, ports) or am I missing a setting in Outlook which means I don't need to change the default Account in Outlook?

Thanks Guys
Russ

Any ideas on this Guys, I still can't get it working!

I also can't just make an additional IMAP account in Outlook because unless I use Internal Zimbra Authentication I can't use External ADS as the account has a totally different name to our ADS user names.
In my defense I had no idea there would be a Company name change when I originally set up Zimbra!
Am I completely off track on this or am I right in my assumptions?!

Thanks Mike,

only problem is, as I mentioned about the IMAP, our ADS Domain does not use this format of User name. We are all 'russs@domain' format as opposed to 'russ.smith@domain'.
So if I set it up this way I'll no longer be able to log in to Zimbra using the ADS existing User login name I assume?
