I was trying to attach an existing ZDB file to an Outlook profile. It tells me the file is not a Outlook Data File. So I tried to create a ZDB file and replace it with my existing one. But it crashed my Outlook and restarted it everytime. Is this a known issue? Can I create/open/attach a ZDB file in OUtlook 2003?
if you have a zdb file and want to view its contents, rename it to .pst then do file->open->outlook data file and select the pst. once you do this you should not expect it to work as a zdb anymore.
I read, from somewhere, that this renaming ability will go away in newer ZCS. Is it right? Is there any converting tool I can use to move contents from one to the other?
Can you point me to the literature that made this claim?
The best way to get content from 1 zdb to another is through the zimbra server. Take the old zdb, rename it to pst, run the PST import wizard and sync it back to another zdb.
When 5.0 is available, you'll be able to rename the zdb to a pst, use file->import in outlook to get it into another zdb.
If you explain what you are trying to accomplish we could point you in the right direction.
In Kevin's reply, I sensed that was the intension.
What I am trying to accomplish is to be able to indenpendently backup a ZDB/PST file as a recovery option in case of system crash. I want to have the ability of restore all entries since Outlook Note and other categories are sill stored locally.
