the GAL should be synced for you automatically. if you have a large GAL, it might take a while.

Ok, found the answer: On the Admin GUI there is a download section to install the Outlook connector. Must have missed that in the docs. Installing the connector and then syncronizing with the zimbra server imported the GAL, calendars and contacts.

Answered my own question. How bout that

I have set up a Thunderbird client with access to the Zimbra LDAP, and I can search for names in the Global Address list; I can also search from within the Address Book if I specifically select that GAL as my search base. However I can't simply see a list of GAL names, either in the web client or in Thunderbird. Is this by design? Having a list to pick from is much closer to how my users are accustomed to working. . .

How does one re-sync to the GAL as changes have been made? If this is automatically done it is not working on my Outlook 2003 client. Is there a way to force the re-syncronization to get the updates?

tools->send/receive->update global address list will force it.
