Question BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Do you have to be on the BES to get the blackberry connector? Also, does installing this on my berry put any IT policies that I wont beable to get rid of later?

Yes, you need a BES server to use the Blackberry Connector - RIM has a free 1-user version you can try out, it's called the Blackberry Professional Software - BlackBerry - PDA Software Downloads - Support & Services at BlackBerry.com

You aren't really 'installing' software on your BB with this, but you are correct in that some policies do get applied, etc. In my experience, I had an older BB that had been synced with a previous BES server, and I had to wipe the device in order to get it to sync with another BES server. So my answer to you would be, "not a problem, unless you wish to sync to another BES server, then you have to wipe it, but you can always sync to BB Desktop to save stuff ahead of time, etc."
