To reply to my own question:

When clicking on the "Choose Folders for Redirection" link within BES I get the error:

"Failed to retrieve folder redirection settings for the selected user. Please ensure that the MAPI Profile you used to login to Exchange has sufficient permissions to read and modify the BlackBerrry configuration data stored in the users' mailbox."

I've got two MAPI profiles (as per the doco) both using my blackberry@domain.com account which is set as an administrator account on the mail server.

Profile names:
BlackBerryManager
BlackBerryServer

Anything within BES that talks to the MAPI profile / Zimbra server results in a similar error.

So there you go more info, hope this helps.

There are definitely some things that BES does that makes the assumption that it is talking to Exchange (or assumptions on the way that the Exchange BES communicaton happens). We do things a bit differently under the hood and the side effect is that some features are temporarily broken until we can identify and fix them all.

Thanks for the testing and the feedback. If you post problems on the forums, we'll file bugs for them. But you can also go into bugzilla and file them yourself as you run into them. Either way is cool.

I keep getting an error on installing bes that my exchange user doesn't have proper permissions.

where exactly is the error message coming from? what user action do you take in the BES manager that causes the dialog to appear?

When I was installing the BES, the pre-check complained about it.

i had that exact same error setting up a test BES dev env last night.
i think that it has to do with the fact that the machine that i was building it on was not part of a windows domain but just a simple workgroup. i ignored the error and just moved forward because ZCB doesn't care about exchange permissions.

Ok, thanks that is what I thought. So I went ahead and installed and everything seemed successful. I can attach a blackberry to the server, and it syncs everything and initializes, but I can't do anything OTA. Any thoughts?

So you've gone through enterprise activation with the device ? (I do it will the BB plugged into the server and assign the device, seems to work better)

Had no issues with an activated device not then working.
