Calendar Alerts/Alarms

Ok I might just be blind I was wondering if there is a way to create calendar alerts not scheduled as appointments. Basically I'd like to have a simplified event (like "Call to register appointment with Dentist") pop up an alert or send an email notification 30 minutes before the event is supposed to happen.

The email thing would be awesome if I could select the email address to send the event to as well because then I could either set a reminder for another recipient -or- I could put in the email address required to SMS my phone or my kids phone

If this exists sweet! where is it? lol ... if not I'll submit a feature request :0
