Default Open Email in New Window

Can emails be opened in a new window (other than with the 'Detach' feature)?

Do you mean new email that you're composing or the one you're viewing? If it's a new email then yes, it's in your options tab. If you mean the one you're viewing then, no, it's the detach button.

Default Curious

Is there a reason for this? The Detach feature is nice but does not allow one to reply/forward from the newly opened window. Typically I work with multiple emails opened at a time, toggling between them as needed and replying/forwarding from the same window as needed.

Sounds like an RFE for me. I can see how it could be nontrivial -- you have to worry about thread state, you probably don't want to reproduce the whole existing button bar (maybe from Tag rightwards), it's another code path to maintain, etc.

In any case, thanks for pointing out the Detach feature -- I've been using Zimbra since February, complained (internally) about inability to open multiple windows to several people, and never noticed. My own inadequate workaround had been to open multiple tabs or windows in Firefox.

It isn't meant to be a reply/forward it's meant to allow you to view other mail in the thread while having the original available. If you want anything else then RFE in bugzilla.

Has anyone submitted the RFE on this yet?

I think all of this already works (is will be coming soon).

Shift-reply or shift-forward will let you reply/forward in a new window. You can also detach a compose session with the detach icon (two small overlapping squares).

In 5.0 we already added the ability to detach any email so you can view it in a new window.

Anything we missed?

You are correct. It works

I've found the documentation on keyboard shortcuts in the options pane. is the Shift+Reply functionality documented anywhere? Are there more actions like this (Mouse + Something).

Thanks

Shift will toggle things where there are options. shift-drag in calendar will toggle quick add vw full appt compose

drag an email to the min-cal to create a new appt, shift will create a new task (in 5.0)
