Default Message navigation

Is there no way to go to the first and last pages of a mail box? I'm trying to migrate from Eudora and some of my folders have hundreds (a few more than a thousand) e-mails. Even cranking the number of messages per page to the max (100) it takes a long time to navigate towards the end.

To add to the frustration if you open a message and then return to the folder, you're back at the beginning!

Tell me I'm just missing something, please

There might be some enhancement requests in bugzilla for those features, do a search and vote if there are any or create a new entry (and vote).

Having said that, I think that feature is unnecessary. Try searching for the content you require, you can save searches, you can tag items and you can also follow the wizard to create a search - much better than scrolling through items looking for specific posts. Change the way you use email, don't try an make it act like Eudora.

I will poke around in there and see what I find.

Eudora actually has excellent searching features which I use all the time. However it's not uncommon that I know more about the time frame of the message than the content. It's easier in these cases to just browse through a few hundred messages scanning the subject lines. As for tagging, I will certainly experiment with this going forward.

Thanks for your suggestions Phoenix.

You can tell I don't know much about Eudora.

Yes, you're probably right about that with small(ish) mailboxes. I have one with 28,000+ (1.6GB) items in it and it's not too easy to scroll through that lot.

Click on the "Received" column header and it will reverse the sort for you. Voila -- last page!

Hit "escape" or press the "Close" button and you'll go right back to the previous view.

If you instead click on the folder again, you'll be sent back to the top of the folder...

Thanks dkarp, those are surprising easy methods to achieve the desired results!

By way of explanation on the "starting over" issue, go to Options --> Mail and change the "Number of items to display per page". When you click Save it returns you to the previous folder only there are 2 issues: 1) you're taken to the beginning of the list (1-x mail items) and 2) while it has updated the list counts in the header bar it's still showing the previous number of items per page.

This can be seen very dramatically by setting 100 items per page, navigating to a mail box which has over a 100 items, then change to 10 items per page. When you click save in the options area and are returned to the mail box it shows "1-10" up top but you still see 100 messages.

Sounds like a bug. (A small bug, but a bug nonetheless.) If you'd like to participate in the whole Zimrbra open-source community, please open a bug report on it in bugziila.
