(draft) user guide translation to german
    hi,

i've found your post about the draft users guide and it looks fine to me.

however, most of my users are not too good at english and it might well be that i could convince my clients to let the user guide be (professionally) translated to german.
sure my clients would give back the resulting german guide to zimbra and the community.

could you steer me to the proper person(s) and/or links that could
    a) tell me if such contribution would be welcome, legally allowed and included in the community edition
    b) tell me if the source document (obviously a word one as it seems) would be available for such effort

    wbr.tja...
    gersh & taja,
I will look into your question's and get back to you shortly

Sure, I'll re-send this thread to the zimbrian covering this guide.

As the layout gets killed in conversion from pdf to word, etc; they may have you export it to a word doc yourself, translate, then send the translation for them to lay out correctly.
Or they may already have thrown it through a translator and might send you a version to review.
That was how some of the original processes worked-but your a contributor, so some of that may be avoided.

The original doc may someday be provided to the network edition users.
(Someone has to be paid to create those docs originally.)

For the open source user's, please keep in mind it's a more complicated situation:
-You'll be surprised to find out how many people out there take the product, completely modify it, with no mention of zimbra anywhere, and call it their own. Releasing original docs makes their 'fake documentation' process one step easier.
-And it's better brand control of bad versions etc.
Hence why it may be kept to per request currently.

But it brings up an interesting point-because not only does the text itself need to be changed, but all the corresponding images with text contained within.
And either someone becomes a photoshop junkie-or you run through all the different language builds/switch languages take a new screenshot, etc.

Not trying to stir up a hornet's nest-just pointing out the present reason why original docs aren't released currently.

Thanks for your patience-here's the scoop:

There will be an HTML 'FAQ' version of the user guide coming out/available on the web with the 5.0 release. Content will match with the partner portal and in-web-client help of course. It will be be much more succinct and easier to sort through for training purposes. Languages will be added as they become available.

Users are welcome to the .doc guide if they leave the Zimbra logos and copyrights untouched.

    Translations:
If there are none by that language already, yours becomes the official -so don't make it double work for someone to go through edit all over again.
Thus, for content to be included as an official translation:
-Do your editing/translation in word/other compatible program
-Of course leave all Zimbra logos/copyrights untouched.
-All content order should stay the same (yes some languages will take up less space/more space; but it needs to be easy to sort through when comparing it to other translations.
-If you can take new screen shots in the said language excellent! (sand, bare, or sky skins only)
-Sign and either email or fax back the contribution agreement: http://www.zimbra.com/license/contribution_agreement.pdf
-Once you finish translating, leave it in word and send it back for conversion to PDF and incorporation in official HTML releases.

Of course, please use the translation section of the forums for comments/questions.

File will be attached shortly-in like 5 minutes.

    End User Guide 4.5
