Default OS X Mail with Zimbra

Well I've searched and can't seem to find any answers to this so I hope it's not a dumb question. I'm trying to set up OS X Mail to connect to pop/imap on my Zimbra server so that I can receive mail for new appointments etc. Whenever I put the details in i get the following;

Trying to log into the IMAP server “zimbra.uts.edu.au” has failed. Please make sure the username and password are correct. If you continue, you may not be able to receive any email.

I have the domain authenticating to an external LDAP if that makes any difference. I've done a port scan on the server and both required ports are open.

Which required ports would those be? Are you trying to use ssl when you should or shouldn't?

No, not using ssl. Ports 110/143 are open for pop/imap.

Default Try fully-qualifying the username

If you login as bob@example.com instead of just bob, does it work?

If not, try to telnet your-zimbra-server.com 143 and see if you get a banner. If not, make sure that IMAP is enabled on the server and the account.

Have you tried to telnet to the zimbra server from your MAC using those ports? I assume you can use the web client from the MAC and login without problems?

Web client works fine. Telnet to port 143 gets;

Connected to zimbra.uts.edu.au.
Escape character is '^]'.
* OK zimbra.uts.edu.au Zimbra IMAP4rev1 service ready

Curious hey??

Default Account may have IMAP disabled

Try typing LOGIN user@your-zimbra.com your-password and seeing what happens (check the logfiles as well). If it fails, it may be due to the user being required to change password or that the user is not permitted to use IMAP. If it succeeds -- well, something's wonky in your IMAP client...

I get * BAD parse error: zero-length content. Tried looking in audit.log and zcs.log and didn't see anything.

Default Whoops.

That was embarrasing. Try this instead:
Code:
A001 LOGIN user@host.com password

Thanks. That works. Although I had to enable clear text login in the IMAP settings on the server to get it to work (telnet and OSX Mail). Not a good requirement!!

Probably should be reported on bugzilla??
