Probably a dumb question, but....

I have just "discovered" Zimbra. I am very interested in using the program as my primary internet based email system, but would continue using Outlook at the office.

Can Zimbra be used in the way I intend (replacing the use of Hotmail and/or Gmail)? I hesitate to install it until I hear from those using it.

Yes and No. Yes in the sense that Zimbra has a slick web UI that you can use from a browser. However unlike Gmail/Hotmail you need to host your own mail server. So need to have a domain name and DNS setup and a server to run your mail server on. There will be hosted providers of Zimbra in the future and if you just want a hosted service it's best to sign up with one of them.
