Default Open attachments in Google Docs & Spreadsheets?

Hi,

Would it be possible to open a Zimbra webmail attachment in Google Docs & Spreadsheets? That way, I would not need a local office suite installed.

regards,
Bart.

That would depend on how the client browser handles the extension of files.

For example, if you open a doc in IE (no reconfigurations), it will open right in the browser.

FF on the other hand will launch msword.

It all depends on whether or not you can get the browser to send the doc to google docs, then display it.

Default A zimlet *might* work

You'd probably want to extend the message view so that each .doc, .xls, etc attachment had an extra link to "open in google docs", which is eminently doable with a zimlet. The problem is getting the attachment content into Google Docs in a popup window; whether that's feasible would depend on the API that Google Docs supports.

On http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/overview.html they describe the Google Data API's. From what I read here, I think it should be doable. If I get a spare month (ha ha) I will mess around with it.

And what about pdf's? Is there any (web) service that allows you to send a pdf and get a png back, for display in Zimbra?

What I'm looking for is "the future", where you can do everything with only a browser (possibly a fat one, with ajax), without having anything else installed locally.

regards Bart.

AFAIK, this is a Zimbra feature (see attachment as HTML).

I don't see that option when I click on or hover over a pdf attachment.
Where in Zimbra can I find that?

Optionally view attachments immediately as HTML instead of saving and opening in another application

That's why you don't have this feature (nor the attachment indexing).

Hi eombah,

We're you able to make a zimlet for Google Apps?
I actually posted this thread before I saw this.. Google Apps as Zimbra Zimlets possible?

It will be very helpful if this can be done. The built-in spreadsheet function of Zimbra still doesn't have multi-user editing capabilities.
